While I had intended to enter a log once a day, I had travel plans that took me to the desert part of the world. Vegas, to be precise. I did bring my camera, recorder and journal along, but I realized that my being there for a celebration made me want to focus on those things rather than this project.

I saw so many things I had never seen, before—things I did not know even existed. There were hotels that had casinos in them, autonomous shuttles, electric busses and so many other grand things. It was February and yet it was nearly 90 deg. F, and there seemed to be a constant sort of energy in the city—everyone was going to shows, shops and everything that elsewhere would be mundane, seemed to be made into a luxurious experience.

The evening view from our hotel room. This was the second time I had ever seen the dessert, and I had forgotten how beautiful the sky becomes as the sun sets.

I experienced food like I had never before. I knew cooking was an art form, but in certain places in Vegas, food as an art became plainly obvious. I found myself slowing down and closing my eyes to experience the taste, texture and experience more fully. There was so much to experience.

After the excitement, there was the drive back! We hit a lot of traffic. I’m not sure I had ever seen so many cars all in the same place. I think it’s an interesting experience to be on the highway. You’re all going the same direction, but likely going vastly different places… There’s probably an object lesson there, or something. We saw the Sun start to set, again, though. This time over the desert hills.

The following are moments from the car ride home.
