If No One Remembers,
Did It Really Happen?
The question was one presented to me in a class. While the answer was immediately “Yes,” I realized later the instructor was implying something greater. The importance of documentation is, in part, so we don’t forget, as a species. The way the world is now, is not the way the world will be in 10, 50, 100 years. I exist above the earthen ground, held up by those in the soil who came before me. I will join them, someday, but while I am here, I may document not just my life, but the world that I exist in, so that the ones I hold up from my future place in the soil, can know the things I experience in this world the way it is, right now.
This lifelong project will be made up of photographs which, for accuracy will remain entirely unedited, journal entries and audio recordings—recordings of the sounds I find in my day to day life—also unedited. I hope to make at least one entry every day. I invite you to keep in touch—check in every now and then; but I also invite you to do this yourself—let us keep a record of the way this world is, because if no one remembers…
